8.5 Connection to CCRS

book.pngWhere is Comprehension in the CCRS?

The College & Career Readiness Standards emphasize critical thinking and deep understanding. Reading comprehension is an integral part of this emphasis.

Students need to develop the skills and strategies to learn by reading all kinds of texts (print, digital, visual, audio, etc.), produce evidence for critical thinking and conclusions drawn from text, compare and contrast texts, and analyze and evaluate viewpoints and arguments.

The CCR English Language Arts standards are an umbrella over all texts in different content areas, and learners need to be exposed to different kinds of text at different levels of complexity. Integrating reading and content area is a good way to deepen learners' understanding of the content.
